Job Overview
The successful candidate will work within the Microbiology Department at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, supporting the delivery of diagnostic microbiology and molecular testing services. Key Responsibilities
- Perform microbiology and molecular diagnostic testing procedures to a high professional standard
- Analyse, validate, and interpret laboratory test results accurately and efficiently
- Operate and maintain specialised laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance procedures, laboratory protocols, and accreditation standards
- Assist in the development and implementation of laboratory service improvements
- Support infection prevention and control initiatives through accurate microbiological reporting
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support effective patient care
- Maintain laboratory records and documentation in accordance with HSE policies and regulatory requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Qualification eligible for recognition as a Medical Scientist in Ireland
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of post qualification experience in Microbiology relevant to the role
- Strong knowledge of molecular microbiology laboratory procedures and diagnostic techniques
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment
- Commitment to quality assurance, patient safety, and continuous professional development
- Experience working in an acute hospital laboratory environment is desirable
