An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a General Practitioner to join the HSE Dublin and Midlands primary care network, serving the community of Monasterevin, Co. Kildare. This is a permanent, wholetime post offering a GP the chance to build a lasting presence at the heart of a growing Kildare community, with a provisional start date of 1 September 2026.

The Role

The successful candidate will take up a General Practitioner position under the GMS (General Medical Services) scheme in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare. This is a permanent wholetime post, providing comprehensive primary care to a defined patient panel within the HSE Dublin and Midlands health region — one of the largest and most diverse health regions in the country, spanning Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Kildare, and parts of Dublin South and Wicklow.

The GP will be responsible for the full scope of general practice, delivering patient-centred care across all age groups and clinical presentations, and playing a pivotal role in the health and wellbeing of the local Monasterevin population.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive, continuous, and coordinated primary medical care to a registered GMS patient panel in Monasterevin.
  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic conditions across all patient demographics.
  • Referring patients appropriately to secondary and specialist services within the HSE Dublin and Midlands network.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records in accordance with HSE standards and medical governance requirements.
  • Engaging with the wider primary care team, including public health nurses, physiotherapists, and allied health professionals.
  • Contributing to health promotion and disease prevention initiatives within the community.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant HSE policies, clinical guidelines, and regulatory obligations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Full registration with the Irish Medical Council as a General Practitioner.
  • Completion of a recognised Vocational Training Scheme (VTS) — candidates must clearly indicate the scheme from which they qualified on their application.
  • Documentary evidence of English language proficiency, as required by the HSE, must be provided at the point of application.
  • The successful candidate must have, or be in a position to establish, their own GP premises in or near Monasterevin in order to commence patient care on the start date of 1 September 2026.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and patient safety.

Location

This post is based in Monasterevin, Co. Kildare — a historic market town situated on the River Barrow, with excellent road and rail links to Dublin and the wider Midlands. Monasterevin forms part of the HSE Dublin and Midlands region, which provides primary, community, and acute health services to a population of over one million people. The region is served by a well-established network of primary care centres, community health services, and acute hospitals, offering GPs strong professional support and clear referral pathways.
