Cherry Grove Nursing Home in Priesthaggard, County Wexford is recruiting a full-time, permanent Health Care Assistant to join its dedicated care team. About the Role
Reporting to the Staff Nurse and accountable to the Manager, Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, and Clinical Nurse Manager, the Health Care Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the nursing team to deliver high-quality resident care. Working under the direct supervision of nursing staff, the successful candidate will assist with a broad range of clinical and personal care duties across each working rota.
Key Responsibilities
Hygiene and Personal Care
- Assist residents with bed baths, showers, and general bathing as required
- Support with hair care, oral hygiene, nail care, and facial shaving for male residents
- Accompany and assist residents with toileting needs, including commodes, urinals, and bedpans
- Assist nursing staff with continence care and stoma management
- Maintain best practice in infection control at all times
Nutrition and Hydration
- Support residents at mealtimes, including assisted feeding under nursing supervision
- Adhere to individual dietary requirements including special diets and supplementary drinks
- Prepare and serve food outside of normal catering hours and maintain kitchen cleanliness
- Ensure residents receive regular fluids throughout the day
- Assist residents with daily menu selection
Mobilisation and Pressure Care
- Reposition residents in chairs and beds to ensure comfort and safety
- Assist with walking, transfers between chair and bed, and movement within and outside the building
- Adhere to physiotherapy recommendations and report mobility or seating concerns to nursing staff
- Monitor pressure areas and ensure air mattresses and pressure-relieving equipment are in good working order
- Encourage independence with mobility at all times
General and Social Duties
- Carry out bed-making, cleaning of trolleys, lockers, wheelchairs, hoists, and equipment
- Manage soiled linen and clinical waste in line with infection control policy
- Answer call bells and refer enquiries appropriately to nursing staff or management
- Assist with resident admissions including property itemisation and orientation to the nursing home environment
- Support activities coordinators and engage with residents socially during the working day
- Assist with virtual meetings and electronic equipment for residents
- Maintain the highest standards of personal presentation and professionalism at all times
- Assist with Last Offices and preparation of the deceased as required
Requirements
- Leaving Certificate (required)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a nursing home setting (required)
- FETAC Level 5 qualification in Care of Older Persons (preferred)
- Proficiency in English (required)
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team under nursing supervision
Salary
Up to €30,000 per annum (full-time, permanent).
