The Lead Clinical Perfusionist (ECMO) Cork University Hospital role offers a unique opportunity to lead and develop extracorporeal life support services within a major acute teaching hospital. This permanent wholetime position is based at Cork University Hospital in HSE South West.
You will provide expert clinical leadership in perfusion services, with a particular focus on ECMO, supporting complex cardiothoracic procedures and critical care pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership for perfusion services, including ECMO support.
- Deliver safe and effective extracorporeal circulation during cardiothoracic surgery.
- Lead and coordinate the development of ECMO services and protocols.
- Supervise, mentor and support perfusion staff and trainees.
- Participate in service planning, audit, quality improvement and governance initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with national standards, clinical guidelines and HSE policies.
- Contribute to education, training and ongoing professional development within the department.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Clinical Perfusion.
- Extensive post-qualification experience in cardiothoracic perfusion.
- Demonstrated expertise in ECMO management and advanced life support technologies.
- Eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body (where applicable).
- Proven leadership, organisational and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical excellence.

- Grade: Medical Scientist – Chief (Grade Code 3876).
- Contract Type: Permanent Wholetime.
