The Health Service Executive (HSE) West & North West is seeking a dedicated Medical Physicist to join our Radiotherapy Department at University Hospital Galway. This is an exciting temporary, full-time opportunity running until August 2026, with potential for permanent placement through our panel system.
About the Role
As a Basic Grade Physicist specializing in radiotherapy, you’ll play a crucial role in delivering safe and effective radiation therapy treatments to cancer patients. You’ll work within a dynamic healthcare team at one of Ireland’s leading university hospitals, contributing to cutting-edge cancer care in the West of Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate calibration and quality assurance of radiotherapy equipment and treatment planning systems
- Perform patient-specific treatment plan verification and dose calculations for complex radiotherapy treatments
- Conduct routine quality control measurements on linear accelerators and imaging equipment
- Provide technical support for radiation safety protocols and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with radiation oncologists and radiographers to optimize treatment delivery
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for complex cancer cases
- Maintain detailed records and documentation in accordance with national and international standards
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Primary degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or closely related scientific discipline
- Professional registration or eligibility for registration with appropriate regulatory body
- Knowledge of radiation physics principles and medical applications
- Understanding of quality assurance procedures in radiotherapy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics or Radiotherapy Physics
- Previous experience in clinical radiotherapy environment
- Familiarity with treatment planning systems and radiation measurement equipment
- Knowledge of Irish healthcare regulations and HSE procedures
