About the Role

Our Cancer Services department is seeking an experienced Oncology Registrar to join our dynamic team of oncology specialists. You will play a crucial role in the delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) to patients with various cancer types, while developing your expertise in this rapidly evolving specialty under the guidance of our consultant oncologists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive oncology care to inpatients and outpatients across various cancer types and treatment stages
  • Administer and monitor systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings with surgical oncologists, clinical oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments integrating cancer-specific and patient-specific information for individualized treatment plans
  • Supervise and mentor junior doctors including SHOs and interns in oncology care delivery
  • Manage treatment complications and provide supportive care throughout the cancer journey
  • Contribute to clinical governance activities, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in on-call rotas providing emergency oncology coverage as required

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Medical degree with full registration with the Irish Medical Council
  • Minimum 3-4 years post-internship experience with at least 2 years in medical oncology or related specialty
  • Current enrollment in or eligibility for Higher Specialist Training (HST) in Medical Oncology
  • Strong clinical skills in internal medicine with demonstrated competency in oncology care
  • Excellent communication skills for patient care and multidisciplinary team collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

  • MRCP qualification or equivalent postgraduate medical qualification
  • Previous oncology experience in academic teaching hospital environment
  • Research experience in oncology or related clinical areas
  • Teaching and mentoring experience with junior medical staff
  • Additional training in specific oncology areas (hematological malignancies, solid tumors)
