Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda is recruiting a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (RANP) to join its Sexual Health Service. This is a permanent, wholetime post at Advanced Nurse Practitioner (General) grade, offering a highly experienced nurse the opportunity to work at the forefront of specialist ambulatory sexual health care in the HSE Dublin and North East region.
About the Role
The Sexual Health Service at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital provides specialist ambulatory care in line with the National Sexual Health Strategy. The service operates across two sites — Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and Louth County Hospital, Dundalk — and is governed by three consultants (one GUM and two Infectious Diseases). In addition to outpatient ambulatory care, the service delivers a consultant-led consult service for inpatients across both settings.
The Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner will practise autonomously within a defined scope of practice, delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care to individuals attending the sexual health service across outpatient and inpatient settings.

- Practise as a Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner within an agreed scope of practice in sexual health, delivering specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients.
- Provide autonomous, evidence-based clinical care in line with the National Sexual Health Strategy and relevant national and international guidelines.
- Conduct independent patient consultations in outpatient settings, managing presentations including sexually transmitted infections, sexual health screening, contraception, and HIV care as appropriate to scope.
- Provide a consultant-led consult service for inpatients at both Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and Louth County Hospital, Dundalk.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical protocols and pathways within the sexual health service.
- Support the education and professional development of nursing and multidisciplinary team colleagues.
- Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development activities.
- Maintain registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) on the Advanced Practice division and uphold all requirements of registration.
- Liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team, consultant colleagues, and external services to ensure continuity and quality of patient care.
Requirements

- Current registration on the Advanced Practice division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by NMBI.
- A minimum of seven years post-registration nursing experience, with significant experience in a relevant clinical area.
- A recognised postgraduate qualification at master’s level in advanced nursing practice or an equivalent discipline, or progression towards same in accordance with NMBI requirements.
- Demonstrated competence in autonomous advanced clinical assessment and decision-making.
- Experience in sexual health or a related specialty is desirable.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Salary
€72,843 – €89,894 per annum (HSE Advanced Nurse Practitioner (General) scale, 9-point scale, effective 1 June 2026). No long-service increments apply beyond the standard scale maximum.
Location
The post is based at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth. The Sexual Health Service operates across two sites — Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda and Louth County Hospital, Dundalk — and the successful candidate may be required to work across both locations as part of the service model.
