A rewarding opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Health Promotion and Improvement Officer within the Health Promotion & Improvement Department in HSE West and North West. This role offers the chance to lead and support evidence-based health and wellbeing programmes that positively impact communities across Sligo, Leitrim, and Donegal.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, community organisations, and strategic stakeholders to deliver national health promotion priorities and population wellbeing initiatives. Opportunities are available in both Sligo and Letterkenny within a dynamic and collaborative public healthcare environment.

Job Overview

The Health Promotion & Improvement Department is seeking an experienced professional with a strong background in implementing national health strategies, developing partnerships, and supporting public health improvement programmes. The role involves delivering impactful initiatives that support healthier communities while contributing to long-term health policy objectives across the HSE West and North West region.

There is currently one permanent whole-time vacancy based in the Sligo office and one temporary higher appointment of 24 months duration based in the Letterkenny office. A panel may also be formed for future permanent or specified purpose vacancies across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the implementation of national health promotion and wellbeing strategies.
  • Develop and manage evidence-based health improvement programmes across community and healthcare settings.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to improve population health outcomes.
  • Provide professional guidance and leadership on health promotion initiatives.
  • Support stakeholder engagement and partnership development across multiple sectors.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on programme effectiveness and service delivery outcomes.
  • Contribute to policy implementation, strategic planning, and service development initiatives.
  • Promote best practice approaches in health promotion and public health improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in health promotion, public health, healthcare, or a related discipline.
  • Experience delivering or implementing national policies, evidence-based programmes, or best practice initiatives aimed at improving population health and wellbeing.
  • Strong experience managing relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary environments.
  • Knowledge of public health priorities and health improvement frameworks.
  • Experience within healthcare or community health settings is desirable.
