Job Overview
The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Occupational Therapist (Paediatrics, Primary Care) to join its Community Healthcare services across Mayo and Galway. These specified purpose wholetime positions offer the opportunity to provide specialist paediatric occupational therapy services within dynamic primary care teams.
This Senior Occupational Therapist Mayo Galway opportunity is ideal for clinicians with strong paediatric experience who are passionate about delivering evidence-based interventions and contributing to the development of primary care supports across the HSE West and North West region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive paediatric occupational therapy assessments and interventions within a primary care setting.
- Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to children and families.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary primary care team.
- Critically evaluate clinical interventions to ensure best practice standards are maintained.
- Support service development initiatives within network areas and contribute to broader OT team objectives.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HSE policies and professional standards.
- Participate in service audits, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with CORU as an Occupational Therapist.
- Significant post-qualification experience in Paediatric Occupational Therapy within a primary care setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in comprehensive assessment and intervention for a primary care population.
- Strong ability to evaluate interventions and apply up-to-date evidence-based practice.
- Proven experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Occupational Therapist – Senior (Grade Code 3301).
- Contract Type: Specified Purpose Wholetime.
- Salary: In line with February 2026 HSE consolidated pay scales for Senior Occupational Therapist (Health & Social Care Professional Grades).

There are currently two specified purpose vacancies available in:
- Tuam Health Centre, Co. Galway
- Westport Primary Care Centre, Co. Mayo
These posts are within HSE West and North West Community Healthcare services, covering Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway. A supplementary panel may be formed to fill current and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration within the region.
This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
