A Senior Physiotherapist vacancy has arisen at St Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny, offering an experienced physiotherapy professional the opportunity to work at the forefront of acute stroke and neurology care in the HSE Dublin and South East region. About the Role

The Senior Physiotherapist will be based within the Acute Stroke Unit and Neurology service at St Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to patients presenting with acute stroke and neurological conditions. This role demands clinical expertise, sound professional judgement, and a commitment to evidence-based practice in a fast-paced acute hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients in the Acute Stroke Unit and Neurology department.
  • Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based rehabilitation programmes.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes and care pathways.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to physiotherapy staff and students as required.
  • Participate in weekend and on-call rosters as per departmental requirements.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the Senior Physiotherapist grade as defined by the HSE. This typically includes:

  • A recognised degree or equivalent qualification in Physiotherapy.
  • Current registration with CORU (or eligibility to register) as a Physiotherapist.
  • Relevant post-qualification clinical experience, with a demonstrated interest or experience in stroke and/or neurology.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in an acute clinical setting.

Salary

€65,197 – €76,767 per annum (HSE Physiotherapist, Senior scale, 9-point scale). Based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. No Long Service Increments apply to this grade. Pay is subject to relevant public sector deductions. For part-time or worksharing arrangements, pay is calculated on a pro-rata basis.
