Role Overview
As a Children’s Staff Nurse at Sligo University Hospital, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to paediatric patients and their families. Working within a multidisciplinary team at the region’s principal acute hospital, you will contribute to a safe and supportive environment that places the child and family at the centre of care. - Delivering safe, compassionate, and family-centred nursing care to paediatric patients
- Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualised patient care
- Collaborating with medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues across the multidisciplinary team
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation in line with HSE standards and NMBI requirements
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of care quality and patient safety
- Supporting and mentoring student nurses and less experienced colleagues as appropriate
Requirements

- Current, active registration on the Children’s Division of the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- The ability to demonstrate the competencies and commitment required for the role as outlined in the job specification
Salary
€38,166 – €56,592 per annum (HSE Children’s Staff Nurse — Registered Sick Children’s Nurse scale, grade 2136, 13-point scale, plus Long Service Increments where applicable). Based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

This post is based at Sligo University Hospital, the main acute hospital serving the HSE West and North West region, including counties Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Mayo, and Galway. Sligo University Hospital provides a broad range of acute and specialist services and is a key centre for paediatric care in the north-west of Ireland.
