Consultant Child Psychiatrist – Learning Disability – Donegal | HSE

HSE Dublin and North East is seeking a dedicated Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist specializing in Learning Disability for our Donegal Mental Health Services. About the Role

As Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, you’ll provide expert clinical leadership within our specialized Learning Disability services in Donegal. You’ll deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessments and interventions for children and adolescents with learning disabilities while leading our multidisciplinary team. This role reports to the Executive Clinical Director and operates across a 37-hour weekly commitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead specialized psychiatric assessments and treatment planning for children and adolescents with learning disabilities
  • Manage complex cases requiring dual expertise in child psychiatry and learning disability services
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, social workers, and educational professionals
  • Ensure adherence to best practice guidelines and quality standards in specialized care delivery
  • Develop and implement innovative treatment approaches for this vulnerable patient population
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to junior medical staff and trainees
  • Contribute to service development and strategic planning for Learning Disability services

Essential Qualifications

Education & Training:

  • Medical degree with full registration with the Medical Council of Ireland
  • Higher specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Additional subspecialty training or significant experience in Psychiatry of Learning Disability

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years post-CCT experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Demonstrated expertise in Learning Disability services
  • Proven leadership experience in clinical settings

Skills:

  • Expert knowledge of developmental disorders and learning disabilities
  • Strong multidisciplinary team leadership capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with children, families, and professionals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship or advanced certification in Learning Disability Psychiatry
  • Experience with autism spectrum disorders and complex developmental needs
  • Research experience in pediatric mental health or learning disabilities
  • Teaching and training experience
  • Additional qualifications in family therapy or behavioral interventions
