The Health Service Executive (HSE), Ireland’s national health service, is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse for our specialized Paediatric Inpatient Ward at Regional Hospital Mullingar. This permanent, full-time position offers the opportunity to provide expert paediatric nursing care in a supportive healthcare environment.
About the Role
As a Staff Nurse in our Paediatric Inpatient Ward, you will deliver specialized nursing care to children and adolescents requiring inpatient treatment. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate holistic, person-centered care that promotes optimal independence and enhances quality of life for young patients and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialized pediatric nursing care to the highest professional and ethical standards
- Provide holistic, person-centered care specifically tailored to children and adolescents in the inpatient ward setting
- Monitor and document patient progress, vital signs, and treatment responses in pediatric patients
- Administer medications and treatments safely according to pediatric protocols and best practices
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including pediatricians, consultants, and allied health professionals
- Support and educate families on pediatric care procedures, discharge planning, and continuity of care
- Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the Paediatric Directorate
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) as a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse
- Relevant nursing degree or diploma in pediatric/children’s nursing
- Demonstrated experience in pediatric nursing care, preferably in an inpatient ward environment
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills specific to pediatric populations
- Excellent communication skills with children, families, and healthcare teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in pediatric inpatient ward nursing
- Additional pediatric specialty training or certifications
- Experience with pediatric emergency procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of child development and family-centered care principles
