University Hospital Waterford (UHW), part of the HSE Dublin and South East region, is recruiting a Senior Respiratory Physiologist (Grade 3010) to join its Pulmonary Function Laboratory. This is a permanent, whole-time role offering excellent career development opportunities in a busy teaching hospital environment.
About the Role
As a Senior Respiratory Physiologist at UHW, you will play a key role in the delivery of high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory services. Working closely with Consultant Respiratory Physicians and a multidisciplinary team, you will support advanced testing, reporting, and patient care within the Pulmonary Function Lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret a full range of respiratory function tests including spirometry, gas transfer, lung volumes, and bronchial challenge testing.
- Assist with sleep studies and CPAP therapy clinics as required.
- Provide clinical support to consultant physicians in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety in line with HSE policies.
- Train, mentor, and supervise junior physiologists and students.
- Participate in quality assurance, audit, and service development initiatives.
- Contribute to research and innovation within the Pulmonary Function Lab.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- BSc in Clinical Measurement Science (Respiratory Physiology) or equivalent qualification recognised by the HSE.
- Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a respiratory physiology setting.
- Demonstrated competence in advanced pulmonary function testing and analysis.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred
- Experience in sleep diagnostics and CPAP therapy.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit, research, or service development.
- Postgraduate qualification in Respiratory or Sleep Physiology.
