A panel is now forming for Staff Grade Podiatrist (Chiropodist) positions across the HSE South West region, covering Kerry and Cork. This is an excellent opportunity for qualified podiatrists to build a rewarding public health career, with permanent and specified purpose contracts available on both a whole-time and part-time basis.

About the Role

As a Staff Grade Podiatrist within HSE South West, you will deliver high-quality podiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services to patients across community and primary care settings in Kerry and Cork. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, and clinical management of foot and lower limb conditions, supporting patient wellbeing and independence across a diverse caseload.

A panel will be formed as a result of this campaign from which current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies — of both full-time and part-time duration — may be filled. Individual site locations within the HSE South West region will be confirmed to panel members at the expression of interest stage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and treat a range of podiatric conditions across community and primary care settings.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individual patient treatment plans in line with evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to HSE documentation and governance standards.
  • Liaise with GPs, consultants, and other allied health professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
  • Contribute to health promotion and patient education initiatives within the region.
  • Participate in supervision, continuing professional development, and departmental quality improvement activities.
  • Comply with all HSE policies, procedures, and statutory obligations relevant to the role.

Requirements

  • Hold a recognised qualification in Podiatry/Chiropody that is registerable with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council).
  • Be registered, or eligible to be registered, as a Podiatrist/Chiropodist with CORU.
  • Demonstrate the clinical knowledge, skills, and professional judgment required to work at staff grade level.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients and the wider healthcare team.
  • Have the ability to manage and prioritise a clinical caseload independently and as part of a team.

Location

Positions are based across the HSE South West health region, which encompasses Kerry and Cork. This region serves a large and geographically varied population, from urban centres such as Cork city to rural and coastal communities throughout Kerry. Individual site placements will be communicated to successful panel candidates at the expression of interest stage, allowing for a degree of flexibility in where you are placed.

Salary

€45,063 – €63,199 per annum (HSE Chiropodist / Podiatrist Staff Grade scale, 13-point scale, plus one LSI at €64,424 where applicable). Pay is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026. For part-time or worksharing posts, salary is calculated on a pro-rata basis.
