The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Bed Management (Grade VIII) to join University Hospital Limerick. This role is central to ensuring efficient patient flow and optimal bed utilization across hospital services in the Mid West region.
About the Role
As Head of Bed Management, you will lead the strategic coordination of inpatient and emergency care capacity, working closely with clinical and administrative teams to improve patient experience and service efficiency. This is a specified purpose wholetime position based in Limerick within the HSE Mid West region.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily hospital bed management and patient flow processes.
- Collaborate with clinical leads and operations managers to optimize admissions and discharges.
- Develop and implement strategies for capacity planning and demand management.
- Lead a multidisciplinary team ensuring efficient patient throughput.
- Monitor and report key performance metrics related to hospital capacity and patient flow.
- Contribute to regional and national initiatives on acute care access and bed utilization.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Hold a third-level qualification in healthcare management, nursing, or a related field.
- Minimum five years’ management experience within an acute hospital setting.
- Proven leadership and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred
- Experience in bed management, patient flow, or operations coordination within the HSE.
- Postgraduate qualification in healthcare or business administration.
- Familiarity with HSE performance and capacity management systems.
What We Offer
