Join the HSE West and North West region as a Consultant General Paediatrician at Mayo University Hospital. This is a permanent, wholetime consultant post (37 hours per week) based in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, offering a key opportunity to provide high-quality paediatric care in one of the region’s leading acute hospitals.
About the Role
The Consultant General Paediatrician will deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient paediatric services, contributing to the ongoing development of child health services across the West and North West. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and play a central role in teaching and service improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist diagnostic and treatment services for paediatric patients.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, clinics, and emergency consultations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of paediatric care protocols and quality standards.
- Support junior doctors, NCHDs, and nursing staff through teaching and supervision.
- Engage in clinical audit, research, and continuing professional development.
- Collaborate with regional networks to ensure integrated paediatric care pathways.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registration on or eligible for the Specialist Division of the Medical Council Register (Paediatrics).
- Sufficient experience in paediatric medicine at consultant or senior level.
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in neonatal or community paediatrics.
- Participation in teaching or clinical research.

- Salary: per HSE Consolidated Consultant Salary Scale (as of 1 August 2025) —
