The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a Candidate Clinical Midwife Specialist (Ultrasound) to join the Maternity Department at University Hospital Waterford. About the Role
As a Candidate Clinical Midwife Specialist (Ultrasound), you will develop and deliver evidence-based ultrasound services within the maternity unit. You’ll work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to enhance clinical outcomes, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support ongoing education and development in the field of obstetric ultrasound.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide and interpret specialist ultrasound scans in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Promote excellence in midwifery-led care through leadership, education, and evidence-based practice.
- Collaborate with obstetric and radiology colleagues to ensure coordinated patient management.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to audit and research activities.
- Support the training and mentoring of midwives and student midwives.
- Participate in clinical governance, policy development, and service evaluation.
- Demonstrate ongoing professional development and maintain required ultrasound competencies.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Evidence of post-registration qualification in obstetric ultrasound or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in maternity care.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and patient engagement skills.
Preferred
- Experience in specialist or advanced midwifery roles.
- Participation in audit, research, or service improvement projects.
