Join the HSE West and North West team as an Assistant Staff Officer (Grade IV) within the Patient Services Department at Portiuncula University Hospital (PUH) and Roscommon University Hospital (RUH). This permanent wholetime role supports the smooth running of patient services across both hospitals and plays a key part in improving care pathways.
About the Role
As an Assistant Staff Officer (Grade IV) in Patient Services, you will assist with operational management of administrative and clerical staff, support both scheduled and unscheduled care operations, and work with managers to develop and streamline patient pathways across PUH and RUH.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Patient Services Managers in day-to-day operations.
- Manage and support assigned administrative staff.
- Contribute to planning and coordination of patient admissions and emergency care.
- Develop patient pathways and process improvements across departments.
- Ensure compliance with HSE administrative procedures and data standards.
- Support implementation of new systems and service developments.
- Provide regular reporting to management teams.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Current employment with HSE, TUSLA, a Section 38 agency, or a statutory health agency (per WRC Agreement 161867).
- Proven administrative or management experience at Grade IV level or equivalent.
- Strong IT and organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership ability.
Preferred
- Experience in hospital or patient services administration.
- Familiarity with HSE patient flow and data systems.
- Qualification in management, business administration, or healthcare administration.

- Salary in line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales – Grade IV (Code 0558), effective 1 August 2025, ranging from €35,922 – €52,247 per annum (including 1% increase per Department of Health Circular 6/2025).
