About the Role
As an HL7 Integration Specialist (EHR Systems), you’ll play a vital role in connecting healthcare applications and ensuring data interoperability across HL7 and FHIR interfaces. Working closely with our Epic EMR team, you’ll design, develop, and maintain integration components that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
This hybrid role offers flexibility to work both from home and at our Letterkenny site.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain HL7 and FHIR integration components within Epic EHR.
- Serve as a liaison between end-users and technical teams to deliver effective health data solutions.
- Collaborate on data conversions, interface builds, and post go-live support.
- Conduct system testing, upgrades, and special updates to improve interoperability.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation and internal procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide expertise on complex integration challenges.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience with HL7 Interoperability Standards, including HL7 FHIR, CDA, and HL7 v2.
- Hands-on experience with at least one integration engine (e.g. InterSystems, Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, Corepoint, BizTalk, Cloverleaf, IBM Integration Bus).
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies (unit, integration, system).
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and share best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
Preferred
- Certification in an integration engine (InterSystems Ensemble, Rhapsody, Mirth, BizTalk, etc.).
- Expertise in FHIR and RESTful API design.
- Experience with SQL, MSSQL, or Oracle.
- Proficiency in C++, C#, JavaScript, VBScript, ASP.NET, or similar.
- Experience with Microsoft Visio.
- Familiarity with Epic EMR or other clinical systems.
