Consultant Orthodontist – Dental & Orthodontic Services – Louth & Meath | HSE Dublin North East

Join HSE Dublin North East as a Consultant Orthodontist working across the Orthodontic Department, Louth Community Service (Dundalk) and Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan. This permanent role offers a rewarding opportunity to deliver specialist orthodontic care in a multidisciplinary public healthcare environment.

About the Role

The Consultant Orthodontist will provide expert orthodontic diagnosis and treatment for children and adults across Louth and Meath. The role combines clinical leadership, service development, and mentorship of dental and orthodontic teams in community and hospital settings.

Contract: Permanent Wholetime (37 hours per week)
Locations: Dundalk (21 hrs/week) and Navan (16 hrs/week)
Region: HSE Dublin and North East (Meath, Louth)

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist orthodontic assessments and treatment plans.
  • Manage complex cases requiring multidisciplinary input.
  • Lead service planning and contribute to the development of local orthodontic pathways.
  • Supervise and mentor junior dental and orthodontic staff.
  • Participate in audit, research, and continuing professional development.
  • Liaise with hospital and community-based clinicians to ensure coordinated care delivery.
  • Support HSE’s quality and patient safety objectives.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered or eligible for registration on the Dental Council Specialist Division in Orthodontics.
  • Extensive clinical experience in orthodontic treatment planning and delivery.
  • Proven leadership and teaching skills within a clinical team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in public health orthodontic services.
  • Postgraduate research or audit participation.
  • Familiarity with HSE quality improvement frameworks.
