About the Role
Regional Hospital Mullingar is seeking a Grade V Payroll Officer to join the Finance Department on a permanent whole-time basis. This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key part in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for hospital staff while supporting HSE compliance and financial governance.
The Payroll Officer will be part of a dedicated finance team, contributing to the effective delivery of payroll operations in accordance with public sector pay policy, HSE procedures, and Department of Health guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing within a busy healthcare environment.
- Ensure compliance with HSE payroll policies, pension rules, and revenue reporting.
- Use the SAP HR Payroll system (or similar) to process and validate payroll data.
- Supervise and support payroll team members, promoting a culture of accuracy and accountability.
- Maintain detailed payroll records and prepare periodic financial returns.
- Respond to payroll queries from staff and management in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist in audits, reconciliations, and system improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Proven payroll processing experience in a large, complex organisation.
- Experience using SAP HR Payroll or equivalent payroll software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a small team.
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of payroll cycles, pension deductions, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Desirable
- Previous experience within the HSE or public sector.
- Familiarity with public sector pay circulars, FEMPI legislation, and consolidated salary scales.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
