About the Role
St Columcille’s Hospital, part of the HSE Dublin and South East Health Region, invites applications for the position of Staff Nurse (Theatre). This is a key opportunity for a registered general nurse to join a dedicated perioperative team in a busy acute hospital setting known for its commitment to excellence in surgical care and patient safety.
As a member of the Theatre Department, you will work within a multidisciplinary environment that values continuous learning, teamwork, and the delivery of high-quality care to surgical patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care across all perioperative phases (pre-, intra-, and post-operative).
- Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention and control standards.
- Prepare and check surgical instruments, equipment, and materials to ensure patient safety.
- Collaborate closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, and allied health professionals.
- Monitor patients and document clinical observations accurately.
- Support and supervise student nurses and healthcare assistants.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits within the Theatre Department.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Active registration with An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI) in the General Division.
- Evidence of recent clinical experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification or CPD in Perioperative/Operating Department Nursing.
- Previous experience in anaesthetics, recovery, or scrub roles.
- Knowledge of current HSE infection control and patient safety protocols.
