The HSE Dublin and South East region is seeking applications for the position of Chargehand (Grade 5088) at St. Luke’s General Hospital, Kilkenny.
This is a Permanent Wholetime role within the Technical Services Department, reporting to the Maintenance Officer/Foreman. The Chargehand will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of maintenance personnel and contractors across hospital facilities and other HSE sites in Kilkenny.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities across hospital departments.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety standards and HSE policies.
- Allocate tasks and monitor performance of maintenance staff and contractors.
- Liaise with the Maintenance Officer, Foreman, and other multidisciplinary teams.
- Manage maintenance resources efficiently and maintain accurate records of works completed.
- Support the delivery of preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives in the Technical Services Department.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant trade or technical qualification in a maintenance-related discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, building).
- Proven experience in a supervisory or chargehand role within healthcare or a comparable environment.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and maintenance regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to manage contractors and prioritise tasks effectively.
- A full, clean driving licence may be required to travel to other HSE sites as needed.
