Cork University Hospital (CUH), part of the HSE South West region, is inviting applications for the role of Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) – Cardiothoracics. This permanent, whole-time post represents a unique opportunity to join Ireland’s leading tertiary referral centre for cardiothoracic surgery and critical care.
As an ANP, you will provide expert, evidence-based clinical care to patients with complex cardiothoracic conditions. The successful candidate will lead advanced nursing practices, contribute to multidisciplinary collaboration, and drive continuous improvements in patient outcomes and service delivery.
This post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist advanced nursing care to cardiothoracic patients in line with national HSE standards.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, initiate treatment, and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with consultants, surgeons, and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
- Lead on evidence-based practice, clinical audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support education, mentorship, and clinical supervision for nursing staff and students.
- Contribute to service development and innovation in cardiothoracic nursing.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Must hold or be eligible for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (General).
- Evidence of postgraduate qualification in advanced practice or related clinical specialty.
- Minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, with at least 2 years in a cardiothoracic or acute care setting.
- Proven leadership, clinical decision-making, and teaching ability.
Salary & Benefits
According to the HSE Consolidated Pay Scales (effective 1 August 2025) for Advanced Nurse Practitioner (General) – Grade Code 2267:
Salary Scale: €71,408 – €88,123 per annum (9 points, inclusive of LSIs).
