The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is seeking a Senior Medical Scientist in Microbiology to join the laboratory team at University Hospital Limerick. This is a permanent wholetime position offering excellent career development within Ireland’s public health system.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise microbiology laboratory operations in accordance with ISO standards.
- Perform complex diagnostic testing and interpret microbiological data.
- Ensure compliance with HSE quality assurance and infection control protocols.
- Support the Chief Medical Scientist in maintaining laboratory accreditation.
- Train and mentor junior staff and students in laboratory techniques.
- Participate in audits, research, and service improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent qualification recognised by CORU.
- Registration with CORU (Medical Scientists Registration Board).
- Minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience in a medical microbiology laboratory.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention and quality management systems.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Senior Medical Scientist (Code 3877).
- Pay Scale (effective 1 August 2025): €62,452 – €73,941 per annum (per Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales).
- Contract Type: Permanent, Wholetime.
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (may include participation in an on-call rota).
