Cork University Hospital (CUH) is seeking a Chief Physicist to lead its Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Department. This is a permanent, whole-time position within the Health Service Executive (HSE) South West region, based in Wilton, Cork. Applicants from both HSE and non-HSE backgrounds are welcome to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Physics Division for Radiology and Nuclear Medicine across CUH.
- Manage and develop diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine services in line with best clinical practice.
- Ensure full compliance with national and EU regulations on radiation safety and quality assurance.
- Oversee technical staff and provide expert advice to consultants and clinical teams.
- Develop policies and research initiatives to support innovation and patient safety.
- Maintain calibration, testing, and documentation standards for radiological equipment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Honours degree in Physics or an equivalent qualification.
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics or closely related field.
- Significant experience in Radiology and/or Nuclear Medicine Physics.
- Eligibility for or membership of the Irish College of Physicists in Medicine or equivalent.
- Demonstrated leadership experience at a senior or chief physicist level.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Physicist – Chief (Code 3832)
- Salary scale (effective 1 August 2025): in line with Department of Health consolidated salary scales for Health & Social Care Professionals.
- Contract: Permanent, whole-time position.
