Letterkenny University Hospital, part of the HSE West and North West region, is seeking a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon (Ref: LYOROR02) to join its specialist surgical team on a permanent wholetime basis. The role involves providing consultant-level orthopaedic services and contributing to the hospital’s trauma care programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality trauma and orthopaedic surgical care to patients in line with HSE clinical standards.
- Lead and manage multidisciplinary surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Provide on-call cover and participate in the regional trauma rota.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and continuous service improvement.
- Participate in teaching, training, and mentoring of NCHDs and allied health professionals.
- Liaise with referring clinicians and ensure continuity of patient care across services.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registered (or eligible for registration) on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Minimum of seven years postgraduate experience, including substantial consultant-level or senior registrar experience.
- Proven expertise in trauma management and elective orthopaedic procedures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and patient-centred care.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (1716)
- Salary: As per HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (Effective 1 August 2025) — consultant scales range from €228,000 – €279,000 depending on experience.
- Hours: 37 hours per week (full-time)
- Contract type: Permanent Wholetime
