A permanent part-time Senior Speech and Language Therapist vacancy is now available with Mayo Community Living (Intellectual Disability Services), based in Swinford, Co. Mayo. This HSE West and North West post offers an experienced SLT the opportunity to deliver specialist clinical services to adults with intellectual disabilities, with a particular focus on feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing (FEDS) care.
Role Overview
The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will provide evidence-based assessment, intervention and clinical management across communication and dysphagia caseloads within Mayo Community Living’s Intellectual Disability service. The postholder will contribute to service planning, staff education and multidisciplinary team collaboration, while also supporting students and less experienced colleagues in line with the Senior SLT grade remit.
A panel will be formed from this campaign for Speech and Language Therapist, Senior (Mayo Community Living, Intellectual Disability) from which current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration may be filled.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist SLT assessment and intervention for individuals with intellectual disabilities across communication and FEDS caseloads.
- Manage complex dysphagia presentations in line with IASLT Standards of Practice for Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (2026).
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and inter-agency teams to support person-centred care planning.
- Provide clinical supervision, guidance and support to therapy assistants and junior SLT staff.
- Contribute to service development, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development in line with HSE and professional body requirements.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the Senior Speech and Language Therapist grade as defined by the HSE. In addition, the following post-specific requirement applies:
- Dysphagia Qualification: Speech and Language Therapists working with individuals with feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties must hold a dysphagia qualification or equivalent, as outlined in the IASLT Standards of Practice for Speech and Language Therapists on the Management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Disorders (Dysphagia), 2026.
- CORU registration as a Speech and Language Therapist (or eligibility to register).
- Relevant post-qualification clinical experience, including experience in intellectual disability services (desirable).
Salary & Contract
€64,551 – €76,007 per annum pro-rata (HSE Speech and Language Therapist, Senior scale — Grade 3379 — 9-point scale, no LSIs), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026. Pay is pro-rata in line with contracted part-time hours.
