The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking an experienced Chief Medical Scientist (Histology) to lead the Histology Laboratory team at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, County Louth. This permanent wholetime role offers a vital opportunity to support high-quality diagnostic services within the HSE Dublin and North East region.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Histology Laboratory, ensuring compliance with HSE and ISO standards.
- Develop and implement operational and quality management systems.
- Supervise scientific staff and oversee daily laboratory operations.
- Drive process improvement, innovation, and service delivery efficiency.
- Collaborate with consultants, laboratory managers, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols and laboratory accreditation requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science (or equivalent qualification recognized by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine).
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in a histopathology setting.
- Proven management and leadership experience at senior or chief level.
- Demonstrated expertise in laboratory quality systems (e.g., INAB, ISO 15189).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Medical Scientist – Chief (3876)
- Salary Scale (effective 1 August 2025): €87,398 – €97,193 per annum (in accordance with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales).
