The Health Service Executive (HSE) Dublin and North East region is inviting applications for a Senior House Officer (SHO) in Orthopaedics to commence in January 2026. This fixed-term, whole-time position offers excellent clinical exposure within a supportive orthopaedic training environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic care under consultant supervision.
- Participate in ward rounds, theatre sessions, and fracture clinics.
- Manage emergency orthopaedic admissions and on-call duties.
- Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Contribute to audit, teaching, and clinical governance activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration or eligibility for registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
- Prior experience in orthopaedics or acute hospital settings desirable.
- Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy clinical environment.
- Commitment to patient safety, professional development, and continuous learning.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Salary (as of 1 August 2025): €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (7 points; Grade Code 1012, HSE Consolidated Salary Scales).
- Contract type: Fixed Term, Whole-time.
- Additional benefits include pension scheme participation, on-call allowances, and study leave in line with HSE policy.
- Standard working hours per HSE NCHD contract (39 hours/week).
