The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician with a special interest in Liver Disease for University Hospital Limerick. This permanent, wholetime consultant post offers an opportunity to lead high-quality hepatology and gastroenterology services within the HSE Mid West region. The successful candidate will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team in a major acute teaching hospital.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver specialist gastroenterology and hepatology care, including management of complex liver disease
• Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient general medicine services
• Contribute to the development of clinical pathways and service improvements
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and patient case reviews
• Provide leadership, teaching, and supervision for NCHDs and medical staff
• Engage in ongoing audit, research, and quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in the consultant on-call rota as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Medical Council Register in the relevant specialty
• Extensive clinical experience in gastroenterology and management of liver disease
• Strong diagnostic, clinical decision-making, and patient-management skills
• Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities
• Commitment to high clinical standards, service development, and ongoing professional education
