The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking an experienced Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist to join its services across the HSE Dublin and South East region. This permanent whole-time position is split between Primary Care South Tipperary (28 hours per week) and University Hospital Waterford (9 hours per week). This is an excellent opportunity for a senior clinician to provide high-quality ophthalmic care within Ireland’s public health service.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced clinical ophthalmology services across both assigned locations
• Provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with a wide range of ophthalmic conditions
• Participate in multidisciplinary collaboration and clinical leadership activities
• Contribute to the development of ophthalmology services in the region
• Engage in teaching, supervision, and mentorship for junior medical staff
• Participate in on-call commitments as required by service needs
• Maintain accurate clinical records and adhere to HSE clinical governance standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Full registration with the Irish Medical Council on the Specialist Division – Ophthalmology
• Extensive clinical experience in ophthalmology, including subspecialty expertise where applicable
• Strong diagnostic and surgical skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities
• Commitment to high standards of patient care and continuous professional development

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

• Grade: Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist (Grade 1150)
• Contract type: Permanent Whole-time
• Working hours: 37 hours per week split between South Tipperary Primary Care (28 hours) and University Hospital Waterford (9 hours)
• Salary and allowances in line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales
