The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Paediatric Surgery for University Hospital Limerick. This permanent wholetime role supports specialist paediatric surgical care across the HSE Mid West region, including Limerick, Clare, and North Tipperary. The post is restricted to eligible internal applicants under WRC Agreement 161867.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high-quality paediatric and general surgical services within University Hospital Limerick
• Provide clinical leadership and decision-making across multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in the acute surgical rota and contribute to regional paediatric surgical pathways
• Support service development, quality improvement, and patient-safety initiatives
• Engage in teaching, supervision, and mentorship of medical and surgical trainees
• Work collaboratively with hospital management and clinical directorates to enhance service delivery
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Specialist registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in General Surgery
• Certified one-year postgraduate fellowship in Paediatric Surgery
• Extensive clinical experience in managing paediatric and general surgical emergencies
• Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Commitment to continuous professional development, teaching, and research
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Permanent, wholetime consultant contract
• Salary in line with HSE Consultant Contract 2023 (Type A/B), depending on contract category and experience
• Standard HSE leave, pension, and allowances
• Participation in on-call rota as per service requirements
