The Health Service Executive (HSE) is inviting applications for two permanent Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine posts, serving Mayo University Hospital for 25 hours per week and the HSE West & North West Region for 12 hours per week. This is a senior specialist role supporting older persons’ care across acute and community services. The posts are open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive geriatric medicine services across acute and regional settings
• Deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management for older persons
• Lead multidisciplinary team collaboration to optimise patient outcomes
• Participate in on-call commitments and clinical governance activities
• Support medical education, supervision, and training of junior medical staff
• Contribute to service development across the HSE West and North West health region
• Engage in quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives
• Work collaboratively with hospital management and regional clinical leadership
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registered (or eligible) on the Specialist Division of the IMC Register in Geriatric Medicine
• Extensive experience in acute geriatric care and management of complex older patients
• Demonstrated leadership capability within multidisciplinary environments
• Strong communication, clinical decision-making, and organisational skills
• Commitment to teaching, audit, and continuous service improvement
• Eligibility to undertake consultant duties in Ireland under relevant legislation

• HSE Consultant salary scale applies (Medical & Dental Consultant 1074 grade)
• Permanent wholetime contract
