The Health Service Executive (HSE) is recruiting Senior Medical Officers for two whole-time, permanent posts based at Joe and Helen O’Toole Community Nursing Unit, Tuam, and Ballinasloe Community Nursing Unit. This senior clinical role supports Older People’s Services across Galway, contributing essential medical leadership within residential care settings. A panel will also be created for future vacancies across Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide high-quality medical care to residents in Older People’s Services.
• Lead clinical decision-making and ensure effective management of acute and chronic conditions.
• Work collaboratively with nursing, allied health, and management teams to deliver safe, person-centred care.
• Support governance, risk management, and quality improvement within the service.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary reviews, family communication, and service planning.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and HSE standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Full registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in General Practice, including substantial experience working with older people.
• Strong clinical leadership, diagnostic, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Commitment to high standards of care, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
This is a permanent, whole-time HSE post.
Salary Scale (Senior Medical Officer – Grade 183T, effective 1 August 2025):
€95,845–€114,646 per annum (LSIs applicable)
