Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise is seeking a dedicated Clinical Midwife Manager 2 (Shift Leader) to support maternity services within the HSE Dublin and Midlands region. This permanent wholetime role offers an opportunity to lead safe, high-quality midwifery care in a busy acute setting.
Table of Contents
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and coordinate midwifery teams on shift to ensure safe, effective clinical care
• Provide expert guidance in neonatal resuscitation, obstetric emergency management, CTG interpretation and perineal suturing
• Support breastfeeding initiatives and uphold national standards of bereavement care
• Maintain high clinical governance standards and contribute to service improvement
• Act as a role model for professional practice and ensure compliance with HSE policies
• Participate in staff development, mentoring, and performance management
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registered Midwife with NMBI
• Significant depth and breadth of experience in midwifery management
• Demonstrated competence in:
– Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP)
– Basic Life Support (BLS)
– Obstetric emergency management
– CTG interpretation
– Perineal suturing and breastfeeding support
• Knowledge of HSE National Standards for Bereavement Care
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
This is a Permanent Wholetime post within the HSE.
Salary scale (effective 1 August 2025) for Clinical Midwife Manager 2 – Grade 2132:
€61,463–€77,666, including LSI.
