This Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology role at University Hospital Limerick offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist clinical expertise within the Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West. Starting January 2026, this fixed-term wholetime contract provides hands-on experience in a dynamic acute maternity and gynaecology setting.

As part of the hospital’s multicultural and highly skilled medical team, you will contribute to delivering safe, evidence-based maternal and women’s health services to patients across Limerick and the wider region.


Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care under consultant supervision
• Manage inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and labour ward caseloads
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, ward rounds, and clinical decision-making
• Contribute to antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal patient management
• Assist with gynaecological procedures and operating theatre duties
• Participate in the registrar on-call rota
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to HSE governance standards
• Support training of junior doctors, students, and clinical staff


Required Skills & Qualifications

• Full registration (or eligibility) with the Irish Medical Council
• Completed internship and substantial NCHD experience
• Prior experience in obstetrics and gynaecology strongly preferred
• Demonstrated clinical competence in acute maternity and gynaecological care
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
• Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice


Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Grade: Registrar – Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Grade 1531)
Contract: Fixed Term, Wholetime
Hours: 39 hours per week plus participation in the on-call rota
Salary: HSE Registrar pay scale applies (per national consolidated salary scales)
