We are inviting applications for a Senior House Officer in Psychiatry position based at St Fintans Hospital Campus, Portlaoise, Co. Laois, within HSE Dublin and Midlands (CHO 8 Mental Health Services).
This is an internal HSE competition for the January 2026 intake, offering excellent supervised clinical experience across community and inpatient mental health services.

This SHO Psychiatry Laois role is suitable for doctors seeking structured psychiatric training within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide day-to-day medical care for patients under consultant supervision
• Participate in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical reviews
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
• Participate in on-call and rota commitments as required
• Comply with HSE clinical governance, policies, and procedures
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Medical degree recognised by the Irish Medical Council
• Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
• Previous experience in psychiatry or relevant clinical setting desirable
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary mental health team
• Eligibility to work in Ireland
Eligibility restriction:
This post is only open to existing employees of the HSE, TUSLA, Section 38 agencies, or statutory health agencies, in line with WRC Agreement 161867.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Senior House Officer – Psychiatry (Grade Code 1010)
• Salary Scale (Aug 2025): €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (pro-rata, point dependent)
• Additional on-call and premium payments may apply in line with NCHD contracts
