Job Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Scientist Senior to join the Point of Care Testing Department, Laboratory Medicine Department at Cork University Hospital. This senior post offers long-term career security within the HSE and the chance to work in a highly specialised, quality-driven laboratory environment.

This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and is ideal for professionals with strong expertise in ISO 15189 accreditation and quality management systems.


Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior scientific and technical support within the Point of Care Testing service
• Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 accreditation standards
• Maintain and develop Quality Management Systems within the laboratory
• Support clinical teams with accurate and timely diagnostic testing
• Participate in audit, validation, and continuous quality improvement activities
• Work independently when required and collaboratively as part of a small specialist team
• Contribute to training, supervision, and service development initiatives


Required Skills & Qualifications

• Eligibility for CORU registration as a Medical Scientist
• Significant post-qualification experience at senior level
• Strong working knowledge of ISO 15189 accreditation
• Proven experience in laboratory quality management systems
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
