Galway University Hospital is seeking an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist (Cancer Services) to join its specialist oncology and haematology pharmacy team. This is a senior, permanent wholetime role offering the opportunity to lead and further develop advanced clinical pharmacy services for cancer patients within a major HSE acute hospital setting.

This position is ideal for an experienced specialist pharmacist who wishes to work at an advanced clinical level, contribute to service improvement, and support safe, effective, and innovative cancer medicines management.


Key Responsibilities

• Provide an advanced specialist clinical pharmacy service to haematology and oncology patients
• Lead and contribute to medicines optimisation initiatives within cancer services
• Support and manage medicines-related improvement projects to enhance patient care and service delivery
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary oncology and haematology teams
• Utilise and support electronic patient records and electronic prescribing systems
• Contribute to Pharmaceutical Aseptic Services, including chemotherapy manufacturing
• Provide expert clinical advice, education, and support to pharmacy and clinical colleagues
• Support governance, audit, and quality improvement activities within cancer services


Required Skills & Qualifications

• Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI)
• Significant post-registration experience delivering clinical pharmacy services in oncology and/or haematology
• Demonstrated experience in managing medicines-related service improvement projects
• Proven experience working with electronic prescribing and patient information systems
• Demonstrated experience in Pharmaceutical Aseptic Services and chemotherapy preparation
• Excellent clinical judgement, leadership, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary clinical teams


Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Grade: Pharmacist – Advanced Specialist (Code 3250)
Salary: In line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (August 2025), dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent Wholetime
