This Senior Orthoptist role at Regional Hospital Mullingar offers an excellent opportunity to work within a progressive Ophthalmic Service delivering specialist orthoptic care across Mullingar, Longford, and Athlone. The position is permanent and whole-time, providing long-term career stability within the public health service.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical leadership, advanced orthoptic expertise, and a commitment to delivering patient-centred care across acute and regional services.


Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive orthoptic assessment and treatment for adult and paediatric patients
• Manage complex ocular motility and binocular vision conditions
• Contribute to multidisciplinary ophthalmology clinics
• Provide regional outreach services across Longford and Athlone
• Support service development and clinical audit initiatives
• Supervise and support junior orthoptic staff and students
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HSE standards
• Adhere to professional, ethical, and governance requirements


Required Skills & Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Orthoptics
• Eligibility for registration with CORU
• Significant post-qualification experience delivering orthoptic services
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of clinical expertise relevant to senior practice
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
• Experience in service development and clinical leadership (desirable)

Salary: In line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (Orthoptist – Senior, Grade 3417)
