The Office of Public Works (OPW) is seeking Engineers Grade III (Civil) to support Ireland’s national flood risk management programme. Engineers appointed at Grade III will contribute to the planning, design, delivery, and management of flood relief and coastal protection schemes across multiple regions nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the delivery of flood relief and flood risk management projects
• Assist with planning, design, procurement, and contract administration of civil engineering works
• Contribute to site supervision and compliance with health and safety regulations
• Assist in technical assessments related to flooding and coastal change
• Prepare reports, drawings, and technical documentation
• Liaise with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and external stakeholders
• Support environmental, sustainability, and statutory compliance requirements
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training activities
Required Skills & Qualifications
• An honours degree (Level 8) in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification
• Eligibility for membership of a recognised professional engineering body
• Strong technical understanding of civil engineering principles
• Knowledge of construction, design standards, and contract administration
• Good communication, organisational, and report-writing skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Initial vacancies are available in Trim, Co. Meath. A panel will be formed to fill future Engineer Grade III (Civil) vacancies across OPW Flood Risk Management Services offices in Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Sligo, Westmeath, and Wexford.
The Office of Public Works is the lead state agency responsible for flood risk management policy, flood relief capital programmes, and the technical assessment of coastal change risks in Ireland.
