Sligo University Hospital is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to join the Ophthalmology team in providing high-quality patient care. This permanent wholetime role offers an excellent opportunity for professional development within the HSE West and North West region.

Job Overview

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients within the Ophthalmology department. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure a high standard of clinical practice and patient safety at Sligo University Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients, ensuring their physical and psychological needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualised care plans.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in accordance with professional standards.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the medical team. • Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.

Requirements

  • Must be registered, or be eligible for registration, in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Clinical experience in Ophthalmology is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse healthcare team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and clinical excellence.

Salary

The salary for this position is based on the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales (1st August 2025) for the Staff Nurse – General (Grade Code 2135).

The scale ranges from €37,288 to €55,477 per annum, depending on relevant experience.
