Job Overview

This Staff Nurse role is based in the Cardiothoracic Ward at Galway University Hospital, a major teaching hospital within Ireland’s public healthcare system. The post offers exposure to complex cardiac and thoracic care within a multidisciplinary environment. International nurses will be supported through structured induction and HSE-led relocation supports where applicable.


Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centred nursing care in a cardiothoracic clinical setting
• Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions pre- and post-operatively
• Administer medications and treatments in line with hospital policies
• Collaborate closely with consultants, CNMs, and multidisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold patient safety standards
• Participate in ongoing education, audits, and quality improvement initiatives
• Support patients and families with education and discharge planning


Required Skills & Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse qualification (or international equivalent)
• Eligible for registration or in the process of registering with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
• Minimum clinical experience as required by NMBI (Indian nurses welcome to apply)
• Strong communication and clinical decision-making skills
• Commitment to professional standards and continuous development
• Experience in acute, surgical, or cardiac care is desirable but not essential
