Galway University Hospital is seeking a Staff Grade Medical Scientist to join its Blood & Tissue Establishment. This role is integral to the delivery of safe, high-quality transfusion and tissue services within the HSE West and North West region. The successful candidate will work within a regulated laboratory environment supporting critical patient care services.
Table of Contents
Key Responsibilities
• Perform scientific and technical laboratory procedures in blood and tissue services
• Ensure compliance with HSE, HIQA, and regulatory quality standards
• Participate in quality control, assurance, and audit activities
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
• Support clinical teams through timely and accurate laboratory results
• Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives
• Participate in rota, on-call, or extended service hours where required
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Eligibility for registration with the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
• Recognised qualification in Medical Science or equivalent
• Demonstrated laboratory experience in blood transfusion or tissue services (desirable)
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to quality standards
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of Irish healthcare laboratory regulations and governance frameworks

• Salary in line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (Medical Scientist – Grade 3875)
