Clinical Optometrist – HSE Dublin & South East

The Health Service Executive is recruiting two permanent whole-time Clinical Optometrists to deliver high-quality primary care optometry services across the Dublin & South East region. These roles offer the opportunity to work within multidisciplinary primary care teams, supporting community-based eye care services across multiple locations.

Locations

  • Post 1: Primary Care Services Carlow Kilkenny
    Based in Kilkenny Community Care Headquarters, delivering services including St. Dympna’s Hospital, Carlow
  • Post 2: Primary Care Services Tipperary South
    Based in Clonmel Community Care Centre, delivering services including Cashel Primary Care Centre

A panel may be formed for future permanent or specified-purpose vacancies (full-time or part-time) within Carlow, Kilkenny, and South Tipperary, subject to HSE restructuring.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive clinical optometry services in primary care settings
• Assess, diagnose, and manage visual and ocular conditions
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary primary care teams
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HSE policies
• Participate in service development and quality improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with professional, ethical, and statutory standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Recognised qualification in Optometry
• Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the relevant professional body
• Demonstrated depth and breadth of clinical optometry experience relevant to the role
• Strong clinical decision-making and communication skills
• Ability to work independently across multiple community locations

• Salary in line with HSE Clinical Optometrist (Grade 3420) consolidated salary scales, inclusive of public sector pay agreements
