This is a senior, practice-focused nursing leadership role within the Emergency Department, combining advanced clinical expertise with education and facilitation. The Critical Skills Facilitator supports nursing and HCA staff through structured education, competency assessment, simulation-based learning, and real-time bedside teaching, translating evidence-based practice into safer and more consistent emergency care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practice-based education, clinical skills training, and competency assessment for ED nursing and HCA staff
- Provide structured orientation, mentorship, and supervision for new and developing staff
- Support staff undertaking formal academic and postgraduate emergency care programmes
- Lead and facilitate multidisciplinary simulation training and clinical debriefing
- Maintain a balance of facilitation and direct clinical practice to ensure clinical credibility
- Work in partnership with the Nurse Practice Development Unit to implement evidence-based practice
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and measurable patient safety outcomes
- Act as a key clinical resource within the Emergency Department team
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a nurse on the relevant division of the NMBI Register
- Significant post-registration emergency department clinical experience
- Education, facilitation, or practice development experience at senior level
- Demonstrated competence in emergency assessment and advanced clinical skills
- Strong leadership, communication, and mentorship abilities
- Experience in simulation-based education and clinical debriefing is desirable
