The SHO in Paediatrics Letterkenny role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience within a busy acute hospital setting. Based at Letterkenny University Hospital in Donegal, this Senior House Officer post supports paediatric inpatient and outpatient services across the HSE West and North West region.
This is a fixed-term, wholetime position suited to doctors seeking structured NCHD experience within a supportive multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide frontline medical care to paediatric patients under consultant supervision
• Participate in ward rounds, clinics, and acute assessments
• Assess, diagnose and manage paediatric cases in line with best practice
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
• Participate in on-call rota as required
• Collaborate with nursing, allied health professionals and senior clinicians
• Engage in audit, clinical governance and continuous professional development
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) or eligibility to register
• Experience in paediatrics or relevant clinical rotations desirable
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Commitment to patient-centred care
• Eligibility to work in Ireland
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary is aligned with the Senior House Officer (Grade Code 1012) HSE payscale.
As per the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 August 2025 , the annual salary scale for Senior House Officer is:
€54,203 – €74,133 (depending on point placement and service)

Working hours are full-time (wholetime) and include participation in the on-call rota.
