Sligo University Hospital is seeking an experienced Senior Social Work Practitioner Sligo to join its acute medical team on a permanent wholetime basis. As a senior practitioner, you will provide advanced clinical expertise, contribute to service development, and play a key leadership role in patient-centred care delivery within the acute setting.

Job Overview

The Senior Social Work Practitioner will work as part of the multidisciplinary team at Sligo University Hospital, providing specialist medical social work services across acute services. The role requires significant experience in medical social work and strong collaboration skills within an acute hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced medical social work assessment and intervention within an acute hospital setting.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support patient care planning and discharge processes.
  • Manage complex cases requiring high levels of professional expertise and judgement.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and professional guidance to social work staff where appropriate.
  • Contribute to service planning, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, legislation, and HSE policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case records in line with governance requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification as a Social Worker and eligibility for registration with CORU.
  • Significant experience in medical social work relevant to an acute hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience working within multidisciplinary teams in an acute medical setting.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and service improvement.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary is aligned with the HSE Social Work Practitioner – Senior (Grade 3614) consolidated salary scale effective 1 August 2025, in accordance with Department of Health Circular 6/2025 .
